Strongman sandbags are usually made from a durable canvas material and come in variety of sizes starting at 25kg and going all the way up to 150kg.
Ideally you want to be lifting your own bodyweight but if you’re just getting started aim for 50% of your bodyweight.
So, if you weigh 100kg a good starting weight for you would be around 50kg. The sand inside the bag should be compact and not loose and floppy like a normal sandbag can be, therefore, you will want to fill the bag to it’s capacity rather than half filling a bag.
